Description
This red dry wine, crafted entirely from Saperavi grapes, hails from the renowned Kakheti region in Georgia. Situated at an altitude of 300-500 meters above sea level, the vineyard benefits from alluvial soils rich in clay and limestone, and a continental climate with hot summers and cool winters. Hand-harvested in mid-October, only the finest grapes are selected for this traditional expression of Georgian winemaking.
The wine undergoes fermentation in Qvevri, large clay vessels buried underground, a method deeply rooted in Georgian heritage. With three weeks of extended skin contact, the wine develops its complex structure and depth of flavor. This traditional process highlights the Saperavi grape's natural intensity and it's strong connection to the region's terroir.
In the glass, it displays a deep, opaque ruby hue with violet highlights. Aromas of ripe blackberries, dark cherries, and plums dominate the nose, accented by earthy notes of leather, tobacco, and spices such as black pepper and clove. On the palate, it is full-bodied with firm, well-structured tannins, delivering layers of black fruit, dark chocolate, and a touch of vanilla. The balanced acidity ensures freshness, leading to a long, persistent finish with lingering notes of dark fruit, spice, and minerality.
Sagvine Saperavi Qvevri 2018 is a beautifully crafted wine that combines tradition and complexity, making it an excellent choice for lovers of robust, characterful reds.
