Brazil

Brazil’s winemaking history dates back to the 16th century with Portuguese settlers, but it was the arrival of Italian immigrants in the 19th century that truly shaped its modern wine industry. Today, the heart of Brazilian winemaking lies in the Serra Gaúcha region, particularly in the Vale dos Vinhedos, the country’s first officially recognised appellation. This high-altitude region benefits from a temperate climate, producing elegant, fruit-driven wines with vibrant acidity. Brazil is best known for its sparkling wines, made using both the traditional and Charmat methods, which rival some of the finest in the world. The country is also gaining recognition for its reds, particularly from Merlot, Tannat, and Cabernet Sauvignon, which offer a fresh, approachable style. With a growing reputation for quality and innovation, Brazil is emerging as one of South America’s most exciting wine producers.
